Senior Backend Engineer — On-site (San Francisco, CA)

Job Description

We’re seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design, build, and scale secure, enterprise-grade backend services that power trusted healthcare experiences. In this role, you’ll work at the core of our platform, building systems that handle sensitive data with uncompromising standards for security, reliability, and performance.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain backend services and APIs supporting AI-driven care navigation and benefits workflows.

• Define data models and integrate with third-party systems such as eligibility, claims, scheduling, and identity providers.

• Implement robust authentication, authorization, logging, monitoring, and alerting for production systems.

• Collaborate with frontend, product, data, and security teams to translate requirements into scalable architectures.

• Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and on-call rotations to ensure system reliability.

• Continuously improve system performance, observability, and security posture.

  
  

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience.

• Strong production experience building services in Rust.

• Proficiency with at least one additional backend language (e.g., Go, Node/TypeScript, Python, or Java).

• Experience designing and operating production APIs and relational databases.

• Experience with distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and observability tooling.

• Track record of building secure systems in regulated or high-trust environments.
